2017 JULY 19 – Pertubuhan Ukur Jurutera & Arkitek Brunei (Institution of Surveyors, Engineers, and Architects) or PUJA for short, organized a Continuing Professional Development (CPD) talk in collaboration with PUJA Academy SDN BHD. Glodon Malaysia’s very own Assistant Service Manager cum BIM researcher, Mr. Chew Siak Kor was invited to speak on the topic “BIM & Quantity Surveyors’ Practice”.
The talk was held at the Ministry of Development Training Center. Participants of the talk ranged from industry professionals and practitioners (architects, engineers, quantity surveyors) to student members of PUJA and from local universities. The two hour long talk pondered on the growth of BIM in the construction industry, current practices of BIM application, as well as standards to follow when implementing BIM. Mr. Chew also addressed common misconception of BIM among the industry players.
The audience of approximately 80 person was intrigued and posed many questions to Mr. Chew. Those that attended included none other than Mohd Shafie bin Haji Mohd Yusof; the Vice President and Chairman of PUJA Brunei’s Surveyor Division, as well as members from the Brunei Public Works Department (JKR).
Mr Chew also introduced Glodon Cubicost Suite to the practitioners in Brunei to highlight simple operation steps and also the value of the software in saving valuable resources in the industry practices, including time, cost, and manpower. Successful case studies were presented to the audience to prove the efficiency of utilizing BIM tools in comparison to traditional practices.
The talk is hoped to expose Brunei practitioners in the construction industry to the advancement of BIM and to ultimately adopt BIM in their respective practices.
